you can see my system below and it was about 5 years old now. It happened last week when I left my pc on for 2 days (on my day off) and I turned it off when I went to work.
I came home and it got two errors messages at boot time. I did replace battery, still no luck.

I would try:

1. Clear CMOS
2. BOOT into BIOS
3. Setup defaults
4. Save and Reboot

If you still see the error then reload BIOS and repeat steps 1 through 4.

Hope this clears the problem, if not time for a new machine :)

CMOS checksum error happens when the battery goes flat, yes. You then need to go into BIOS setup, load optimal defaults, make your special choices, adjust time and date, and then SAVE AND EXIT.

last night I cleared bios to default and I still get "CMOS/GPNV CHECKSUM BAD" and I decided to re-flashed same bios and I still get same error. It seems that it is time for me to replace motherboard but I can't decide which motherboard to replace because I don't know if I should jump to 64-bit cpu cuz my althon xp 2400+ is only one year old now.
