BIOS ROM Check Sum Error!

I have a GA-8IPE1000-L (Rev 2.0) motherboard and I recently upgraded my bios through Gigabyte's automated internet bios update (@BIOS) and now my computer won't start to windows. It won't even let me into the boot menu. When it installed it, it didn't crashed or stall. It installed the bios and asked me to restart the computer. I think FVCKING Gigabyte install the wrong bios. Now the only thing I see when I start the computer is this...'

Award BootBlock Bios v 1.0
copyright [c] 2000, Award Software, Inc
BIOS ROM Check Sum Error
Detecting Floppy drive A Media.....
Please insert system disk

I've looked on the internet about this and try a couple of things and it won't work. I bought the cheap version that doesn't have dual bios so I can't do anything with that. I've boot into DOS and tried to flash it with the latest bios software from gigabyte's site, but after it gets done loading the bios I get this message, "Bios ID Error" and I can't on any further. To see how it should update correctly, look at this PDF file from

I read on this site that has the same problem as me
and they actually had to replaced the bios chip.

Anyone have experience like this before? Keep in mind this has nothing to do with the on board battery, just the bios. I didn't overclocked or anything like that before I tried to updated the bios. I've tried unconnecting everything from the motherboard and it does nothing so I'm positive that it's the bios that's been damaged. Is there anyway to fix this with some kind of software?

If not, what's the best place to buy some bios chip? The label on my chip says...
PhoenixBios
D886 (or 888, small type)
Phoenix 1998

It might be the actual ROM content being corrupted, or, more likely if you didn't do a BIOS update straight before this happened, bad RAM. The data corruption happens when unpacking the main BIOS program from ROM to RAM, and the message is the same regardless of how and where the data became bad.

You can try hot flashing it in another board or order another chip from badflash.com. Also, since Peter mentioned bad ram you should run memtest86 on it and see if it finds errors.

IF it's asking for the floppy, you will need to try a bios boot recovery,
I have never done one but give that a shot.. do a search on bios recovery or boot block recovery.

If that fails I might be able to re-flash your chip or get you a new chip

MY website is posted in my sig.

I removed the sticker off the chip and here's what it says on the top...

PMC Flash
MGGJM
0331
Pm49FL002T-33JT

It's a 32 pin PLCC package.
Do you have chips that are compatible with this?

I've try everything I can to fix it, but nothings working. So, I've decided to replace the bios chip with a new blank one and I'm going to flash it with the bios for GA-8IPE1000-L (Rev 2.0) from DOS. Will this work?

Anyone know where to get this PLCC 32 pin extraction device to pull the bios chip out? I can't find it anywhere on the net.

With a blank BIOS chip, how do you think the system is going to boot?

What you need to do is boot to plain DOS from a floppy disk, and attempt to reflash the chip you have right now.

My damned DFI Lanparty did the same thing last night. I reset the CMOS and am reformatting as we speak (that's ok i wanted to dual boot Mandrake and XP anyway). If that stupid Winflash utility F'ed up my Lanparty I'm gonna be pissed.

I did do that but it said bios ID error. I've looked on the internet about it and it's impossible to do from what I've read. Here's what I've done already...

Anyone know if this would work? Start my computer and get into DOS with my current bios chip and while the computer is still on, remove the chip and replace it with the new blank one. Then flash it with the bios for my board. I just realized now that if I have a blank bios my Floppy drive won't work. I read on Via Arena that they did something similiar to this fix the same problem I had. I've never done anything like this before.

Any know this will work at all?

Once again: Get the intact and CORRECT file for your system, and then flash from floppy. If you are sure the file you have is the correct one and is intact, and the flash utility still says "BIOS ID error", then use the override command line switch for this utility. The instructions for this particular utility should tell you how to do that. RTM.

I have a gigabyte board and they use a propriety flash utility based on American Megatrend's. I've tried putting AMI's flash utility and the bios for my board on the floppy and flash it with that, but it's not compatible with each other. I've look but can't find any indepth instructions for this gigabyte flash software.

I emailed Gigabyte about my problems and is waiting for their response.

Thanks everyone for helping!

Well, since the "checksum error" behaviour clearly points to your board having an AWARD BIOS, you should be using an Award flash tool, don't you think?
