BIOS resetting itself??

OK, so everytime I turn my PC on I am greeted with this screen: http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/926/dsc013506jw.jpg

It seems to be halting my system because it detects there is not a floppy drive installed. There isn't.

The BIOS seems to be resetting itself (putting all integrated peripherals back to their default settings, resetting my overclock, resetting the boot order etc). However, it doesn't reset the BIOS' clock (which it does when I manually reset the BIOS by pushing the small BIOS reset button on my mobo.

Why does it do this? Do I just need to put a new battery in there? Or is something else going on that is causing this? I've only had this PC since ~August last year, and I have never really heard of anyone's CMOS battery thingy dying, though I suppose it must happen.

I hope I explained evrything enough - if not, just tell me. Thanks.

replace the cmos battery, they are pretty cheap, couple bucks at walgreens.......try that first, especially since the screen says its failed, I have had a few die on me.....usually happens just as yours, for some reason the clock didnt die until I changed the battery, but then reset everything and it was fine....

As the guys said - the battery is probably the culprit. Also, have you checked the position of the BIOS reset jumper...

Hi, When the CMOS battery gets weak, the clock is usually the first to go. Seems to be a design feature to warn you that you need to change the battery. If you have a volt meter, remove the batt and check the voltage. Should be near 3 Volts. Will still be going down to about 2.5 v. Should be good for up to 5 - 8 years of service. If in doubt, change it! Anything could be happening. Good Luck, Jim

Edit: Another good tip off about the Batt is that everything is fine if you shut down for a few minutes, but no go if you shut down for several hours. Jim
