bios randomly sees cd-rom as duplicate hdd

I just built a new computer about a week ago and the bios randomly shows my hard drive instead of the cd drive.

I have two hdd and a cd drive and when it happens the first hard drive is listed twice. Once where it should be and again in place of cd drive. When this happens vista fails to load and I have to reset or turn the computer off. I notice when resetting doesn't really fix the issue but turning it off and letting it sit for bit seems to work better but it still seems random.

Everything on my computer works fine. I was able to install vista, all my data is on the hard drive and vista sees everything. Because everything works fine it feels like something may not be configured right but I don't know what and I haven't changed any bios settings.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I haven't checked that the bios is updated yet but I did update the firmware on the dvd drive. I'll have to check that next and see what happens.
