I cannot get amd xp1700+ to work with 133mhz bus. Everytime I go into BIOS and change it to 133, the computer goes black after saving it. I then cleared my CMOS and everything is fine until I try it again, with same result. Everything else is stock with BIOS unchanged, no cards installed. I have heard of there being a BIOS update, but that was already in effect when I bought my motherboard. At bootup, the first thing I see is Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG. Is there another way to get the BIOS number

Gear:
Soyo Dragon Plus, purchased from newegg last week of 2001.
New AMD xp1700+, newegg.
2 sticks Crucial 256mb 2100 DDR-SDRAM new retail.
Thermalright SK6 w/Sunon 60mm fan w/ Arctic Silver 2.
ATI Radeon All-in-wonder
untested used Teac 1.44 mb floppy - NON functioning !
MS natural keyboard
MS Trackball Exlorer (which is tremendous!!!).
Antec 840 case with 400+ watt ps, new.
2 new Maxtor (Quantum rebadged) 30gb 7200 UDMA100 hard drives
Cendyne (rebadged LiteOn) 24x CD/RW
MS Windows 2000 professional.
latest 4 in 1 VIA drivers 4.37

Thanks for any help.

PS. Can't get audio when watching TV on screen with the ATI card. However, the CD audio works just great and is a huge improvement over my old Compaq soundcard.

I also have a XP1700 and the Dragon +, and it is running 133 mhz just fine. I haven't updated the BIOS from the version it came with last december. It says v6.00PG just like yours. So, I don't think you need a BIOS update. Besides that, I have no clue.

I also have the D + with XP 1700+..Works fine with bios that came on board. Could be an IRQ issue, could be a heat issue. Have you checked your temps yet?

I have the 2BA1 BIOS, which most people say is the best BIOS and that it's better than the latest 2BA2 BIOS.

My temps are around 48 or 49 idle and 59 degrees Celsius under load. These temps are high. I read another thread where a guy had around 50 degrees and he thought his heatsink might not be right, so he took it apart, put on fresh thermal paste and had the same temps. I think my heatsink is also on okay.

well ok i have the same problem... my board works fine in 100 and sometimes in 133 i can get it to post(win98) but it just never gets far. i have 512 ddr ram from kingston. my cpu is around 45 under idle and 50-55 under heavy load. i have one stick in the DIMM 1 slot and one in the 3rd slot. i heard that might be a problem so i'll change that and see if that works. also i have the 2ba1 bios. anyone have any other tips?

Athlon 1800+
512 DDR Kingston
Leadtek Geforce 3 Ti 200
Swiftech Heatsink

You might want to check the DIM switches on the mobo. These can be set for the FSB but the BIOS should override it (least thats what the manual says). Maybe set them to 133 and see what happens.

Well, I have a suggestion (might sound kind of naive to all you pros), but why don't you try updating the BIOS?

The bug in the BIOS is a known issue, and lots of people fixed their problems by updating the BIO, so you should probably try it...

Again, this is a just a naive suggestion :p

Those temps are too high. The only reason I can think of is that's the heatsink isn't flat against the core of the CPU. Take the heaksink off and see if there's a square impression on the heatsink. If there is, it's contacting correctly.
