I've got a serious problem with my system. It won't post and I can't get into BIOS. Clearing CMOS doesn't help. System just hangs and sits there at blank screen. Won't boot from floppy or CD-ROM; BIOS is inaccessible.

This is my second go-around with this issue. It hit me when I attempted to flash the BIOS to support a 200G HD. Tech support for the mobo manufacturer said the BIOS was damaged and I needed a new chip. I was looking to upgrade anyway, so decided just to buy a new mobo with plans to upgrade the CPU down the road. I purchased a Shuttle AN35/N Ultra. On first startup, I got into the BIOS to specify settings. It autodetected all the drives, registered the memory, everything looked fine. I saved to CMOS and exited. System hung again. Same behavior as with previous mobo. What the hell is going on here? I can't get into the BIOS, can't boot from any device, can't do anything, just like before.

The thought occurred to me that maybe I had a virus on the HD that infected the BIOS. Is this possible? I'm dead in the water here. I haven't the foggiest idea where to go from here.:(

No it isn't a virus!

At first you better thirst clear your CMOS again (battery 2 minutes out and connect the pins) and after that you must disconnect the flatcables of your HD and only use your FD (or CD/DVD-drive).
After those actions try to come again into your bios.
