I could not get an answer to the below question on Ubuntu forum, so I thought I would post here.

Should this BIOS parameter add additional tables as per acpi 2.0 specifications be disabled or enabled before installing Ubuntu ?

Or is the setting of this BIOS parameter not relative to the installation/functioning of Ubuntu ?

Thanks.

Off the top of my head I can't really say, I wouldn't think it would cause problems but you never know. If something weird happens with it on try it with it off.

If I am interpreting the research I have done on this so far, correctly, my impression is that if some of your hardware components are older ones, then having this BIOS parameter enabled can possibly compensate for the older hardware components.

The reason I am asking about this is because I have been having some problems trying to get the Ubuntu program/application (Brasero) to properly burn an ISO image of Ubuntu when I am using a Plextor brand CD-RW drive. Every time I try to burn an image when using the Plextor drive, I get some type of error/anomaly which concludes in the burned image not been correct.

I subsequently changed to drive from a Plextor to a Sony and bam the Brasero program burns the ISO image correctly every time that I have tried so far. I also had these same type of problems when trying to burn the image on another computer, again, that was using a Plextor drive.

I have not had a chance to try enabling the above mentioned BIOS parameter and then put the Plextor drive back in the machine to see if that might cure the problem - I am sort of hesitant to pull the Sony out of the machine and try the Plextor again, since the current installation of Ubuntu seems to be working so fine. And also, I am not sure that I could just swap the drives and then change the BIOS parameter and have this do any good, without actually having to completely reinstall the O/S after the parameter has been changed.

What do you think ? Also, could the burning problem be just that the Brasero program is not compatible with the Plextor brand drives ? Or perhaps that the Plextor drives do not like the Sony and Imation CD-RW media that I am using ?

Thanks.
