bios overlay

I have an 850 mb hard drive that has a bios overlay from the 486 days. how do I get rid of it.... it isnt an ezbios or maxblast overlay.
I think the overlay is causing some sluggishness/

The drive manufacturer should have a wipe utility on their website that'll clean it for you.
