BIOS not detecting my new HD

I just got my refurb Seagate 'cuda IV 80GB HD from newegg today and wanted to test it, I also wanted to test out the refurb Lite-On CD-RW I got last week. I decided to use my old P233MMX computer as a testbed so I took off the case, removed the CD-ROM and HD that were in it, put in my new refurb ones and hooked 'em up. I figured I would try installing Windows on the new HD using the new CD-RW. So I turned on the computer, it posted but won't detect the HD. Any ideas? The motherboard is a GA-586TX2.

My first thought would be the mobo don't support that high of a hdd. I will try to search on around on google and see if I'm right.

I just searched some news group's and found that people can't get that mobo to support bigger then a 8.4gig hdd.

I believe the drive is too current for that motherboard. It possibly doesn't even support DMA. I would try the harddrive in conjunction with a more current motherboard. If it doesn't work then, come back and post some more.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll see what I can do. Btw, if I stick the old HD back in there and leave the CD-RW, could I reasonably expect to at least be able to test out the CD-RW on that machine?

The cdrw drive should work fine in that system for testing. In my old pos P233mmx box befor it bit the dust I had a 8x4x32 burner in it which ran just fine. The mobo/cpu went out in it for no reason at all. lol I did not use it for all most 1 week and thought I would play around with it. Turned the system on and there she went.

I was able to save the rest of the part's in the system. 😉

Thanks for the info HalfCrazy.

Btw, the sales receipts I get from newegg for the refurb items say that the products have a 30 day warranty, but then it says I only have 7 days to return wrong or damaged items. Does that mean I only have 7 days to return it if its DOA, or does that only apply to damage during shipping?

Could a Biostar M6TBA board (440BX chipset) which is what I'm running right now be able to detect a drive that large and allow me to test it?
