Bios Memory Hole Enable 15-16M?

I recently fell upon an article that said to enable the 15-16m hole in the bios to get rid of the popping noise with sound blaster live values. Sure enough, this solved the trick. I was just wondering what this option does, and if I am risking anything with my system be it performance or life. Thanks a bunch guys.

If it's a Live it would have to be PCI. What's the origin of this memory hole? Does anyone have more information.

This ?memory hole setting? is an historical remaining from the days that IBM tried to push PS/2 OS.

It has to be disabled with windows, I doubt that it has to do anything with the SB trouble.
