BIOS keeps resetting itself

I have been having a problem recently with the BIOS resetting itself when after the computer is shut off. I have a Chaintech 7njl1 with an Athlon XP 2500, 1GB corsair XMS, etc etc. This problem seems to have appeared after my wife booted up the computer with her iPod connected to it. It got stuck sometime while booting, and after disconnecting the iPod and rebooting again it had reset the BIOS. Now almost every time the computer is turned on the BIOS will reset itself again. It also screws up the clock in Windows as well. Besides that everything still works fine. This is a major annoyance having to set all the BIOS settings every time and if someone could give me some tips I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

First try resetting the CMOS jumper on the motherboard. Instructions should be in your motherboard owner's manual. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE POWER CORD REMOVED FROM THE POWER SUPPLY BEFORE RESETTING CMOS. ALSO, GROUND YOURSELF TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO YOUR COMPUTER COMPONENTS.

Once you have reset CMOS, go into BIOS and reset to defaults and see if it will boot. If it does, then restart and go back into BIOS and change whatever parameters might need to be changed.

After you have done the above and if you can boot to windows, I would then consider flashing the BIOS to the latest version, if it is not at that version.

edit: P.S. - It is not impossible that there might be a problem with the CMOS battery, but with a system this new it is not likely. However, it could be that it just needs to be reseated.

Good Luck.
