Bios Issue?

Working with SATA for the first time believe it or not. I ended up using a SATA for a boot drive and then installing a secondary IDE drive (tried as both the slave and master and nothing fixes the problem below).

I thought SATA was automatically the primary drive by default over IDE, no? I have a system where the BIOS will not let me change the boot order of the 2 HD's, one SATA which was installed first and then one IDE. I started getting a few error messages at start ups and even a BSOD after installing the IDE HD. Am I missing something here? How do I get the mobo not to recognize my storage drive as the boot drive if I can not change it in the BIOS? Mobo: Intel 945PSN. FYI, this system had no trouble before the secondary drive (IDE) was installed.

Thanks for any assistance.

Thanks for the reply, but that's what I did. Built the system and added the IDE a week later. What's happening? I go into the BIOS and it shows the IDE as the first boot device and won't even let me change it.....

No kidding 🙂. It is trying to though. That's the whole problem. I can't even change the boot order in the BIOS. Any other thoughts?

you should be able to change the boot order, even to a slave drive. i recommend that you update to the newest bios. or, just reflash your current one.
