Bios Issue w/ Several Mobos

I reluctantly abandoned AMD once Sandy Bridge came into the picture as SB's performance is too good to ignore - but now I am encountering issues with accessing the Bios from several different boards: Asus H61, H67, and a MSI H61 board. This is w/ using hdmi out to a Plasma TV and wireless kb/mouse. There may have been a Biostar in the mix as well (!). Either boot-up would skip right past Bios screen regardless of attempts to access, or the Bios display resolution would be too large to navigate. Surprisingly a Zotac H61 works fine and was the cheapest of the bunch.

Another possibly related issue is that some of the boards also would not boot w/o my video card (5670) even though they should handle the i3 2100 graphics just fine.

Could this be related to using hdmi to the plasma tv or has mobo quality really plummeted? (prior to this I had the same setup for a couple of years)

thanks in advance
