I had a bad flash on my ECS board and ordered a new chip from bad flash and now all is well. But I would like to try to flash the chip that has the bad flash to get it working again. I believe there is a way to replace the chip while the computer is on and flash it, but that is the extent of my understanding of the process. Your help would be appreciated.

Ah yes, hot flashing. I've had to do it twice with my Asus P5As.

Pretty simple to do.

Start the machine up in pure DOS mode with NO DRIVERS LOADED! (himem.sys, cd-rom drivers, etc...)

Remove the good BIOS chip being very careful not to bend/break pins, insert old chip, run flasher, reboot.

If all went well you should now have two good BIOS chips.

I had done this as well but with the boards that have the rectangular socket not the newer square socket. So the following instructions are for those sockets only.
First remove the working bios chip. Get scotch tape and make a lasso around the chip. do the same for the dead bios. ( the lasso should not hinder the pins.)
Put the working bios back in. reboot, follow stevewms directions.
Now you can pull the working bios easily without touching it and put the dead bios in. flash and you are good to go.
