BIOS for MSI 865PE Neo2-S

honestly i'm a little scared to try it. it doesn't come with any instructions. like with the 875 bios updates it warns you not to flash from a floppy for some reason. i might just wait till may 20th when MSI updates their website for the official release of the springdale chipset. :brokenheart:

This forum is fast 🙂

I got this bios from Taiwan Tech Support. They gave it to me because I was having problems running my memory frequency @ 400MHz with a 800MHz FSB CPU. This BIOS fixed my problem, but that is the only thing I've found that this bios has done from ver. 1.0.

The way I flashed it was the traditional floppy approach (via www.bootkisk.com - Windows ME bootdisk). I've done bootable CD-ROMs in the past, but they are a hassle if you have a floppy drive handy... Just make sure you get one with a RAMDRIVE setting (like WinME), so when you boot off the disk, you copy the bios files to the RAMDRIVE, and run the flash from there.

Good luck!

Thanks guys! I noticed that it wasn't on MSI's site. I've dealt with essencompu before, too! I got my last motherboard there, how about that 😉

that's cool! i usually get my basic components from them, i.e. hard drives, mobos, cpus. memory from mushkin of course and tweak stuff from frozencpu and coolerguys.

i know... too much information, but i just felt like typing i guess 😀

I got a response from MSI Computer yesterday, located in teh Bay Area. They sent me the same BIOS (1.21) I got 2 weeks ago from Taiwan; however, they did state that the release version (1.2) will be posted on the 23rd...

So I suppose we have to wait until then!

Ok it's the 23rd , any news? anybody seen a bios update yet ?

Here is a quote from an MSI Taiwan support representative that I just received based on CPU temps and fan noise:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your inquiry.

After contacting the CPU vendor, the temperature shown in MSI new BIOS
should be ok now.
As mentioned before, the value is for reference only. It might have
tolerance difference with all motherboards/components.
However, we'll keep testing and implementing new solutions for the board
if any. Please wait for the update on MSI web site.

Please feel free to let us know if you still have any further problem.

Best regards,

MSI Technical Support

MSI Tech Support,

I am still having problems with my motherboard (MS-6728). Temperatures
are not accurate, and the CPU fan is not being regulated.

Currently, I am using BIOS 1.2 BETA 1 that you supplied earlier, however
the noise that the computer makes is more than my previous Athlon
system...

What is the status of a BIOS update that addresses these issues?

Thank you for your time,
Derek

They didn't mention anything about a BIOS release on the 23rd (Today), which is contradictory to what MSI USA told me a few days ago...
