BIOS flash to support new CPU

I recently bought a new socket A motherboard. It supports the Athlon XP 2400+ but only after the BIOS is flashed to the latest version. Unfortunately, the motherboard has an older BIOS which only supports the Athlon XP (Thoroughbred) upto 1800+/2200+. I have not got another socket A CPU.

I want to buy the 2400+ but can I flash the BIOS to support the new CPU after I have installed it? Or does it need to be done before?

Please help. Thanx for any suggestions.

OK, well, it's really a bit of a non-issue. You install the new CPU and as you boot up for the first time you can go ahead and flash the BIOS.

You might be able to boot up with the new CPU without flashing and perhaps the CPU will be recognized as running at 1800, etc, that depends on your BIOS, but why bother?
