BIOS flash question

I am setting up a new system for a neighbor, it has a DFI AZ30-EL Mobo (nothing fasinating). When I try to flash the BIOS (using AWDFLASH) it gives me a write protection error? I looked all over in the BIOS for something that would lock it for writing but found nothing...any ideas?

Check your motherboard manual for a BIOS flash jumper. Some have such a beast which prevents you from being able to flash it. Also, some BIOSes have a BIOS Flashable option in the settings. Enable it.

What he said. However, I just took a look at your manual online and saw no mention of any jumper of BIOS entry. Just for the heck of it, why not clear the CMOS first and just set things to "basic" levels (your CPU will most likely be underclocked at that point. Then set to boot to floppy and try the flash again.
To clear the CMOS, I would recommend both what the manual states (jumper) and removing the battery for a few minutes. Make sure the system is unplugged. Then try the flash.

Buz2b's suggestion is a good one too. Some motherboards won't flash properly if you have BIOS caching and/or shadowing enabled. Setting it to default/failsafe settings might help.
