Ok, so for the first time....ever....atleast for myself....I bought a system from a vendor instead of just building it myself. Everything has been alright but theres a horrible nagging problem that every time the cpu fan spins up from anything more than idle the whole system pauses for a moment. Skipping mp3's, getting fragged, and all kinds of other unwanted events are pretty much the norm with this particular machine. I had pretty much given up on ever fixing it as the BIOS is custom deal from acer and has just been a giant p.i.t.a. Well I finally looked on acer's website and low and behold, an updated BIOS that claims to fix this issue has been posted, but I'll be damned if theres any application I can find to actually get the ball rolling here. My last, and other, system had a gigabyte motherboard, so flashing it was a cakewalk, but the provided acer app just simply refuses to work, which makes sense as the BIOS flashed to the mobo now is a phoenix and the app was made for well, another company. It should also be mentioned that this machine also lacks a fdd and for the life of me I can't get it to boot from a thumbdrive (even when it's listed as the number 1 on the boot priorities). Am I boned here? Next time I don't care if it works out cheaper than just buying parts themselves, I'm avoiding system vendors like the plague.
Acer E360
Mobo: fc51gm
CPU: x2 3800+
the rest of the specs really shouldn't matter and I'm rather lazy
