Hi,
I was running a Ryzen 5 7600X on a Gygabyte B650M AORUS Elite AX micro ATX board. CPU temp in the bios was 35C. Now I switched to MSI B650 MAB Mortar. The same CPU is running at 44C. I'm wondering if I didn't properly seat the heat sink...or thermal grease issues?

Should I try to clean up the old grease and reply and maybe tighten the heat sink?

TIA.

Temps can vary by board. If it makes you feel better you can check the paste and screws to make sure it's clamped down. The other thing is the bios could be allowing more power to the CPU.

I wouldn't pay any attention to BIOS idle temps. BIOS coding doesn't necessarily have to be efficient. It's entirely possible that some boards do more busy-wait. My X470 Taichi liked to idle at 50C+ a few BIOS versions ago. Now it's generally closer to 40C even with a hotter CPU. In both cases, OS (linux) idle temps were 30-ish. There's probably a 10C variance at BIOS idle among the 5 boards running a 3500X.
