i overclocked my 2100+ from 12x166 [default vcore] to 9.5x200 [vcore = 1.65]; i had done this before and it had been stable for on testing but i chickened out then as i needed a crash-free machine for work [now got more time to play :D]

anyway i left it running 3dmark2001se and when i got back all i saw was the desktop so i assume it dumped out to desktop; so i switched back down to 12x166....

exitted out of ram and i got the bios checksum error; turned it off at the back and when i retarted it had default-started, so i put my settings back and now it is fine but what would have caused the error and what should i be worried about? :(

Now that you have gone back in and set things back to "normal", I don't think you have any worries. The checksum error happened because the system didn't like the overclock at the time and settings you had. The subsequent option to reset things "cured" the problem. You can still play with it if you want but I would be careful. Possibly do smaller increments on the overclock. As to why and when it decided to belch when it did, there is no way to predict that. It just did what it did. Consider yourself lucky; I've had that happen and it corrupted my Windows installation to the point that I had to reload everything. :( Not a good thing so consider yourself lucky and take what you can get.
