Bios and SiSoft reporting very high temps/voltage - wierd...

I posted this at the General Forum the other day but did not get anything useful from those guys - thought the crowd in here might be a bit more helpful:

I just noticed the other day that my motherboard was running my C2 at 1.97v and that the temperature on my BH6 was 55 degrees Celcius. I assumed that this was an error by Sisoft Sandra since I had the C2 set to 1.8v and the highest I had ever seen my motherboard run was 33 degrees celcius.

I checked the bios and it was set to 1.8, but it too was reading 1.97v and it was running 45 degrees Celcius after being turned off for 12 hours. I am not sure if I believe the temp, but something is wacky. I have now set my C2 to 1.7 volts in bios (a setting in which it crashes) and it is running fine. However, both my bios and SiSoft report that the voltage is really 1.86v.

Is my motherboard starting to get flaky? How could it be 45 degrees celcius on boot up? I assume that it is accurate because it is also reporting extremely high voltages that are correct as they are in line with what I need for stability even when it is set to voltages that are below what I need for stability.

Any ideas on how to trouble shoot this one??

PS I know it is summer and that things run hotter in the summer, but I tested everything this morning when it was quite cool in here and the heat and voltage issues are the same.

I dunno because my new P3V4x runs .13 volts higher than you set it to. It's not really bothering me... and in your case, since I too have 2 BH6's, I would just leave it alone. Give it good cooling, and you should be OK. If you feel wierd about it, then replace the MB; otherwise you may just shorten the life of your processor a few months... (that is after, of course, it has gotten so old that it's out of date and then you can pawn it off on a friend for 1/10th of the cost you paid for it and feel like a real idiot for selling that CPU for so cheap, but then again you have to have the newest CPU, and you need to cash yesterday to go pick it up...)

Kinda get what I am saying? :)

I have the same problem with a giga-byte mobo (apollo pro 133A based). My voltage (for everything, Vio, Vcore, etc) readings are all about 10% higher than default values, and my cpu reads 35-40 degrees celsius at bootup (on my aopen ax6bc, I only get 24 degree at bootup). In addition, my pci and agp cards do run a little bit warmer (should I say hotter for my voodoo3???) but everything is still rock stable in windows (except for the voodoo3 in quake3 which crashes after a while due to the high temperature - you all know you can fry eggs on this sucker, but on this mobo, you probably can burn them to hell! This same voodoo3 runs perfectly fine OC'ed from 166 to 192Mhz on my other mobo!!!).

My thoughts: I suspect the power suppply or the mobo itself to be defective. I ordered a new antec 300W power supply, and I will post my findings here after I receive it.

DieselMan:

I tried a new powersupply and the problem persisted. Problem seems to come and go in stretches lasting several days - wierd.

I got the new Power Supply, but this WAS NOT the problem :(
I guess my mobo has a defective voltage regulator, but I am no engineer to tackle the task of fixing it. Does anyone have any idea? I know I probably could just return the board to a reseller, but I may end up paying as high a price as a brand new board for fixing it. Napalm, sorry to keep you waiting for an answer. Good luck!
