Bios Access for Bluetooth Keyboard?

Hi guys,

I was wondering if you have a bluetooth wireless keyboard, are able to access the bios before windows boots up? I am thinking of purchasing a wireless keyboard and from what I have read on some random sites, it said that bluetooth keyboards will not work unless windows has already booted up because it uses certain windows drivers.

Is that true? or does it depend on certain bluetooth keyboards.

Thanks

It depends on the keyboard.

Some BT keyboards are bundled with a USB dongle that handles all the wireless functions completely within the dongle, requiring no Windows driver to be installed. In this case the wireless keyboard + dongle appear to the computer as a simple USB input device. As long as the BIOS supports USB keyboard input, the keyboard will work fine.

Other keyboards may be bundled with a USB dongle that requires a Windows driver to be installed in order for the keyboard to function, or may not include a dongle at all (relying on a BT transmitter inside the computer to function). These will typically not work with BIOS, since Windows drivers have not yet been loaded.

The best way to determine this, is to check the specs and/or Google for the keyboard you're planning on purchasing to see if it's supported in BIOS or not.

Good luck!
