The future.

It's the first thought that ran through my head as I was reading the story. Unfortunately, reality's definition of bionic is at least a few decades away from mine.

Also bionic eyes. Obviously not the same woman. Technically not much of an eye but rather a camera on a pair of glasses which records the images and sends the corresponding signals (limited to rough shapes and stuff atm) to the receptors which in turn reproduce the image.
