Not bad. Not bad at all. No breakdown on the the percentages for the three platforms though so now fanboy wars here. This is good news though because maybe devs will see that they will be rewarded if they put in a quality effort instead of just shoveling crap out there. <cough>Screwjumper</cough>

In the last Top Secret podcast we had all the members guess how many units we would sell in one week across all 3 skus. While I have to admit, throwing out a number like 100,000 seemed pretty overzealous after seeing how hard digital titles are to sell, I still hoped we could reach that lofty goal. Boy, did I miss the mark.

7 days -- over 130,000 units.

Holy fiddlesticks!

That may not seem impressive compared to package titles that sell in the millions but compared to other digital titles that is a friggin JUGGERNAUT!

And while, it's great to have my first title be not only a critically acclaimed one but also a financial success, there is a bigger picture at play here that we need to look at. Consumers voted with their dollars. They basically have sent the message loud and clear:

We are tired of meta-emulated crap.
We want the titles of yesteryear to be paid the proper respect.
We want them done right.
And if the price is right, we'll buy.

Basically, we have set a standard in digital gaming. The bar has been raised and you have let developers around the world know that if they invest the time, money, and heart into making (and remaking) some great games, you will support that initiative.

I wonder how this compares to Braid for 360 sales. You can bet that price has a lot to do with this as well.

I would love to see more remakes like this. Contra? Mega Man 2? Castlevania?

What I'd really like to see is Super Metroid. Imagine if it was given the Rearmed treatment. Too bad Nintendo won't make it happen, and even if they did the Wii doesn't do HD.

Jonathan Blow said Braid sold 55,000 in it's first week. Which is pretty good in comparison since it was released only on XBL while BC:Rearmed was XBL, PSN, and PC.

Yeah, unfortunately it wouldn't be a fair comparison even if we had exact numbers for 360 sales of BC:R.

I'm curious as to why digital titles don't sell more. Lack of marketing? You'd think they'd have more appeal due to the lower price and easier access.

I d/l'ed the demo this weekend and was favorably impressed by it. I just wish that they had allowed us to try the first boss fight. I spent soooo much time on the original NES game. I might buy this one.

Rearmed is on PC? Steam? What kind of digital package are they using. If it isn't Steam that makes me angry.

Skace, I think I saw a thread in the PC forum discussing the distribution of this game and if I remember correctly some of the people were complaining because of the DRM included. PC forum link

How difficult is this game, is it as bad as the original, not sure I want to buy it if I can't pass the 4th boss like in the og? That and I was pissed they didn't let me play the first boss in the demo, makes me less likely to buy also.

Well I never played the original, so I have nothing to compare it to. There's several difficulties and I'm playing through on the default, regular, normal, w/e the hell it's called in this game and I think it's just challenging enough. After the first few areas I started to have some trouble, but never enough to deter me from playing. The boss fights are pretty awesome IMO, with some trickery and reflexes needed for each one but in a different way.

I would pay $$$ for games like this, the 2d metroid/castlevania type games are my favorite.

Metroid Zero Mission on GBA was awesome, it was like the original Metroid mashed up with Super Metroid, and then some.

I'd pay $10 for a PC version. $15 for a PC version with free DRM? No thanks. Guess I'll have to find it elsewhere....

Even though I'm not the biggest BC fan, I bought the game because I really, really want to see more proper remakes like this. These sales definitely send a message.

Even though its technically not a remake, I hope the cop out mega man 9 fails.

Dont get me wrong, I really dig megaman. I would have loved to see a genuinely new mega man on wiiware/xbla/psn, with some effort put forth into bringing it into the 21st century. What I dont want to see is a "new" megaman, written on a NES emulator.

I honestly wouldnt be surprised if this "new" megaman was actually developed almost 20 years ago and then shelved, only to see the light of day when someone discovered it in the archives. I'd bet that even if the entire game wasnt already developed, a significant amount of the art assets etc are leftovers.

Ask yourself what you really want to play in 2008 and beyond...great remakes of classic games brought into todays era with todays technology, or a race to the bottom to see who can make the most retro game?

Mmm. much of the "today" you're talking about is subjective. I thought megaman x8 was awesome, gorgious looking, and quite true to the orignal stylings, even though slash dash cancel wasn't as useful.
