Is it possible to use the scanner to save something besides a finger print like a special token?

I have a few scanners and am interested in trying something.
 
This is a fairly large emerging technology and it does not stop with finger prints. Beyond that it gets a bit expensive at present.

they have some that do what i guess you could call an iris fingerprint. it has the same kinds of mathematical/geometrical intricacies as a fingerprint....but like corky said its $$$
