Bing and its BS user numbers

I am a fan of MS software but prefer yahoo or google over bing.
I hate the fact that IE8 automatically sets Bing as it's search provider. Whenever it crashes, reinstalls, updates, etc, it appears again.

I think out of 49million users of bing, 48millions are just an IE user forced to boot with bing upon installation or update. MS is using this hyped up number to gain grounds imo.

Doesn't IE, upon a first install/startup, ask you what search provider you want to use by default?

That is correct. I had to get rid of MSNBC as a home page. Bing was not installed by default. Since I already had Google, IE8 asked me if I wanted to keep it. I said yes.

I agree. I have IE8 with the Google Toolbar, Google is my search default and the home page is what I want it to be. I also installed and seem to like
IE7 Pro .. It adds some features that are nice to have. (yes it will work with IE8 despite the name) http://ie7pro.com/

Microsoft is about 6 years too late with Bing.

i switched to bing. i like it. i was surprised.

IE8 has been very well behaved in terms of giving you options on what you want as a default search provider, homepage, etc. I still mostly use FF but do use IE8 on occasion. Having installed IE8 on a few different computers, I am pleasantly surprised at how well behaved it is and how it gives you options to configure it the way you want.

what do you expect ie is from MS!! if you using chrom it probably set google as default no surprise there.

but the problem is whenever I reboot from an update, it brings up bing AGAIN! It brings all these useless MSN links to my favorite folder as well.

To completely remove BING, click on the IE Tools menu, then select Manage Add-ons. Click on the Search Providers button on the left, then click on Bing and click the Remove button.

If you want to leave BING installed but not use it as the default, click on Google in the list (or your preferred provider) then click the button "Set as default."
