So it's no secret that the bin laden family is big into construction, and osama is actually a civil engineer. I realize he has no affiliation with the family in terms of al quida (as far as we know...).

Although i did find it a little ironic that the family responsible for the one of the worst tragedies in history of buildings, is now creating the largest.

Considering this one is in Dubai, UAE, i doubt it will be attacked, unless osama has some family grudge.

As we now know, bin Laden has something of an edifice complex. I think that qualifies as a family grudge.

I believe those were designed for the tallest structure in the world, not the tallest building.

What's up with Dubai anyway? They're building this building, creating articifial cities, have super-luxurious hotels. super luxurious airplanes, and a nightlife that rivals Europe. But it's all being done in the most conservative and dangerous part of the world, where fanaticism reigns supreme. It's only a matter of time before all this comes crashing down. A few of my friends have spent the weekend in Dubai, but it's in a region of despair and weakness.

They have lots of money from oil, their resource, and should spend it on their country.
I welcome the spending on cities and buildings rather than warheads.
UAE is stable relative to other regions...such as isreal, chechnya, and kashmir.
It is a very rich region due to the oil, and with limited violence i would like to make the analogy to ireland. It is debatable weather the region will come crashing down. Saudi Arabia didnt, turkey isn't and iran east is pretty good. Fact of the matter is they can use their money as they please.
You have better ideas on what they SHOULD spend their money on?

lol. you're hilarious. Don't you realize that the War on Terror is just starting? Things are bound to get worse before they get better. Nevertheless, I hope Dubai ends up like Shanghai in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, where everyone can come together for a night of women and alcohol. It'll be a great place to "just getaway."

So the war on terror is just starting... so they are going to attack an arab nation with few ties to the western world?
under that assumption the US should stop making buildings for terrorists to attack! yeah...that makes sense. :S

Their prosperity is due partly to the fact that the UAE has a very low tax burden, I would imagine.

In fact the UAE has the lowest tax misery index:

We should ram Air Force One into it...but do it BEFORE there are people in the building.

Actually, the U.S. buys very little oil from the U.A.E. In addition, most of the oil is in Abu Dhabi.

That is true. Dubai is trying to wean itself from being dependent on oil, and started it way way back in the 70's when they slowly grew dubai into a trading port. It's now a great location to have a great vacation, buy cheap electronics and have a great time. It's amazing how devoted the Dubai prince is in taking Dubai to the next frontier of moderness and keeping it away from die hard islamists. A truly cosmopolitan self contained city.

True, the biggest oil fields known are where the US are getting their oil, that is SA.
