Bimmer 540i or Lexus GS430?

Let the debates begin. Brother has a 540i so I'm very familiar with it. I had it for 3 weeks and realized I like the power. I was just wondering how it compares to the upgraded GS430? Both have excellent power and can get to 60MPH in ~6 seconds. The Bimmer has a sweet 400W system but the Lexus has drop the Nakamichi in favor of a Mark Levinson system.

Right now I'm thinking the Lexus is a way better in terms of bag for the buck. I have a Toyota now and the only maintainace done has been routine oil and tuneups. I know there were problems with the GS electrical system. BMW seems to have resolved their issues with funky electrical glitches but there have been many other spotty problems ( radio replaced twice, misc electrical issues, dash board light issues, failed to start in winter). Everything was covered under warranty but I still have nagging doubts.

What do people here think?

definitely the bimmer.....nothing drives like a bmw....they aren't the leading sport sedans of any car enthusiast for no reason

Unless you get the 540i with the 6-speed, get the GS430...much better bang for the buck

I'm partial to the BMW. I bought a new 1995 540i 6 speed and it was one of the best cars I've ever owned. I drove several GS400s and really couldn't see paying the going rate for one. Have you looked at the back end? UGLY!

My brother has a M5 (Silverstone Gray or Avus Blue) on order but he is getting sick of waiting for it. He is considering the CLK55 and will either sell his spot on the wait list or turn it over to a family member. Sooooooooo tempting....... its a lot more dough than I want to put out for a car though.
