Hey,

I have bought some things trough Ebay... been great
Now I'm interested in selling something. I have done the selling regestration and billpoint registration but don't really understand how this works yet. Thought I'd ask you guys hopefully someone w/ some experiance can help.

The $500 standard limit ? Does that mea whatever I sell has to go for less than $500 ? (Including shipping etc)
Is Billpoint safe ?
Whats the deal w/ invoices and checkout... is it required to send an invoice and how does the checkout thing work ?

Im probably an idiot and its real simple... but its my money and I'm not willing to lose it !

-thanks

You're not an idiot, you're just being careful.

I've used billpoint for both buying and selling and have found it to fit fairly seamlessly with Ebay. The fees are there (3% or more) but considering the relative speed with which you get payment and how much easier it can make things for the buyer, it's definitely a worthy option.

The $500 limit is the usual (it's what I started with). In the event that you have something that will sell for more, feel free to send an email to the accountreview dept at billpoint. You can ask for a per-transaction limit increase every 90 days or so. They take a look at your ebay history and say yay or nay.

For the checkout part, you can state the shipping charges if you have a flat shipping rate (highly recommended) directly into the ebay form. This way, the buyer can pay immediately. Very fast and efficient. Buyers outside of the US must always be reinvoiced, since billpoint will deny then the ability to procede unless the seller reinvoices the checkout item -- this way, you need not fear of international users trying to get away with US shipping rates.

Oh I see. Ok well I'm glad I chose a flat rate, and am only selling within the US. That should make things a little easier to do.

Fun stuff really !

Beware Billpoint Theives!!!
Ebay recently changed their selling preferences so that you *AUTOMATICALLY* accept Billpoint as the default payment method. I did not know this and apparently the last time they charged my credit card, they set me up a Billpoint acct as well (which I didn't even know I had). I sold some things, and ebay/billpoint forwarded a BILLPOINT INVOICE to my buyers!! So 3 buyers send me funds on Billpoint. I never log in, accept the funds, or agree to the fees (apparently you agree *blanket* to whatever they charge you upfront, in the pages of fine print, unlike Paypal where you accept/deny each fee as it is incurred. Anyway, I was told I had to log in and refund these peoples payments. I click on the refund button for each of them, and the money goes out of my account, but 1 day later it is still not in theirs!!! Then.. GET THIS.. They charge me a transaction fee for this!!! For a service I never wanted and for a payment that I rejected!! I emailed customer "service" and they refused to credit it! Needless to say I put a temporary freeze on my bank account until I can PERMANENTLY CANCEL my Billpoint and I am waiting a month so they will stop billing me. This is verging on CRIMINAL behaviour here.

Yes, on the bright side, Billpoint is convenient, and at least the Cust svc responded in a few hours, surprisingly, so if you are lazy, inept and dont mind getting gouged (their rates are higher than anyones) but love the convenience, I suppose it is a good service for you.

I can't imagine they are allowed to behave like this. Would ANYONE use Billpoint if it wasn't ebay's default payment? I don't see why. Guys, stick to Paypal or c2it.com or something similar please!!
