yeah, an entire US govt. budget for a single year is about 4-5 trillion

mmm seems low 12 billion when i'm reading that we spent 15billion in 1997 for Federal only and 33billion for state.

Since I'm always an ass about numbers: 12,642.3 million is really 12,642,300,000. You got the billion part correct though.

The figures are "in millions of dollars"....

so 12,XXX would be 12+ billion

Think of it in this way:

1,000 bags containing $1 million each would be 1 billion dollars...

12,000 bags containing $1 milion each would be 12 billion dollars...
