I'm a New Mexican, not a Bill fanboi but I think he's got to be the VP of choice in this election because of his many strengths. Who's he going to party with?

It would not surprise me if Obama reached out and selected a moderate republican as his VP. It would be very dangerous for him in some ways, but it would fit his message well.

as i see it, only Clinton would select Richardson

but it is really really too soon , they'll carefully calculate the selection after the nomination is in the bag and the opposition candidate is known

has something like this ever happened before? or in the last 60+ years? I wouldn't be surprised either. I'd be freakin shocked.

I remember there were some rumors that Kerry asked McCain to be his VP but McCain denied it. Who knows if it was true.

lincoln selected johnson, a southern democrat.

presidents tend to have one member of the other party somewhere in their cabinet. william cohen, clinton's second term secretary of defense, was a republican senator from maine. dunno who bush has had.

Considering what happened to Lincoln, I don't think having a republican vp would be a strong selling point for Obama. Course it wasn't exactly roses for Johnson in the end either, was it.

McCain's compared the office of vice president as being worse than his time in a POW camp :p

the real question is, who would accept it? it'd be political suicide if they lost and if they won, Obama would be facing a hostile congress from the start, for putting a republican in position to be the presumptive heir to his presidency.

Very true, but it would fit his change message perfectly. I remember reading that he is good friends with Bloomberg and that they had lunch recently. Not sure Bloomberg would care for a VP spot though.

Bloomberg is one of very few who would be worse than Bush.
He would make the ticket so horrible I would vote for Keyes over him.

Rest your head. Billionaire CEOs do not play second fiddle to anyone. He'd never take a VP spot and his whole schtick is likely to be to aim to appeal to those looking to bolt the D and R parties.

Oh, and why do you hate him again?

I'm not aware of any Democrats in Bush's cabinet. I'm certain there are none in the important positions, but there might be one stuffed in a pointless cabinet post (HUD I'm looking at you!)

I like Richardson. Yeh, sure, he's far from perfect, but he has the experience, credentials and temperament to be an asset to any Democratic admin. He'd make a good vice pres to any of the potential nominees, and could go a long way to promoting our image in the rest of the hemisphere... if not that, any dem president elect would be negligent if they didn't find a place for him in their cabinet...

He'd have a lot of clout in gathering the hispanic vote, and also western votes in general...
