Bill Gates - I want my OS back!

If this is an OEM system (Dell, HP, etc.) complain to them.

If not, borrow someone else's disc and use your key.

So blame the OEM who sold you a PC without providing discs. Most of them will send you discs I think for restoring your system.

Of course, one could easily say you're partially to blame for not having backups or your hard drive.

You likely paid no more than $20 or so for that OEM OS anyway, if it came with a new PC. In the future, insist that the manufacturer give you an Install CD along with the PC, or don't buy the PC.

I am totally to blame. But my back ups dont ghost the OS or do anything that would enable me to restore it.

Well, you'll know for next time that you need to backup the OS as well as any files.

If it's an OEM version of Windows, it's said OEM's responsibility to provide you with restore disks, not Microsoft's.

I remember when I had an HP and my hard drive died. I had to pay $80 to get the recovery disks from HP. Had I known better, I would've just bought Windows for $100.

HP Windows = 5 cds
windows = 1 cd

Besides it was never your OS to begin with, you were just licensing the right to use it.

Maybe he's the guy who wrote DOS?

Just get Ubuntu/Linux Dapper Drake to put on it and you can use just about anyway you see fit and give it to whomever you want !!!
