So there's 10 minutes of my life I'll never get back!!!

Installing a flippin' HP XP Home cd on the HP laptop it CAME WITH and the "validate online" wouldn't take. The install ID was not valid & required the................(ahem)........"phone call". (Give me a fvcking break!)

Talkin' to a computer who prompts me with 'humor' ("almost done") breaking down the bazillion-digit number back to her..........err......'it'!

Greeted by person of "other-country" origin, gives me back the *new* bazillion-digit number and all's well.

Think I'll be borrowing my buddy's (ahem) "corporate" copy from now on........:|

User error. Took me 5 secs to activate my XP Pro when I was setting up my new system. You got PWND!

Everytime I've had to call them up to activate my copy of windows it has been really quick and the person on the phone was very polite. I've never had any problems with it.

Therein lies the problem......😉

Not really, it's not a big deal. I reformat my computer so often so I can kind of understand. I'd rather I didn't have to do it, but I'm not going to complain about 10 minutes of my life, especially something that resulted from my own problem.

So you just decided to make a thread about it and waste another 10 minutes of your life? duh

For sure!

Actually, key was entered correctly the first time............gal said she didn't know why their system was requesting new validation.

Never had to do it before & saw enough complaints here to wonder what the fuss was all about...............now I know!!

It's no big deal. I reinstalled XP Home from an oem cd I had on both of my parent's dell laptops. It accepted the key to install but neither would activate. I just gave them a call, told them I was reinstalling windows using the licence that came with the computer and they gave me the numbers to activate them. I don't know why everyone makes it out to be a big deal.

ive done the same also just reinstalled it on my own computer after HDD failures and such it takes liek 45 secs to get it done

It still sucks and if I didn't have a corporate license for XP I would go back to Window2000 Pro... it's basically the same anyway except for all the fancy GUI stuff.

I'm done with Microsoft O/S's after XP. Vista looks like a big steaming pile and Linux is suddenly very attractive to me. I hope Google comes out with an O/S and guts Microsoft... that would rule. 😀

I like my open-licensed copy. I don't have to activate squat. Just punch in the CD key and it's open for bizness.

Windows can suck my big ones, but I'm also technologically stupid enough that I don't know how to get started using an alternative OS. Argh!!!

Assmunches stealing software is the reason we have to go through all the activation crap in the first place. If it pisses you off so much use something else. You're not being forced to use windows.

I just switched out a motherboard two days ago on an XP. It didnt have onboard network and I had forgot to install a card. I did a repair install and had to phone MS to reactivate. Easy, painless and quick.

Why does dealing with Microsoft always turn into a hassle for some people here?

Obviously you had a lot going on today given the fact that you decided to take at least a few more minutes to tell us about the 10 minutes you will never get back.

BTW, if you can tell me how to spend 10 refundable minutes of my life on something then please share.
