Former president Bill Clinton said in a recent interview that “there is a limit” to how many migrants the United States can take without causing disruption.

Clinton’s comments came during an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, who asked, “Now what you have is a lot of people who are essentially economic migrants . . . essentially gaming the system, using the asylum as a way to get in. Isn’t it true that there has to be some order placed on this? Some control?”

“I agree with that,” Clinton replied. “That is, there is a limit to how many migrants any society can take without severe disruption and assistance, and our system is based much more on an assumption that things would be more normal,” Clinton said on a CNN podcast with Zakaria.

Clinton’s comments come as border agents have recorded more than 2.1 million migrant encounters this fiscal year, including more than 200,000 encounters last month alone.

The 76-year-old former president recalled a time when he was young in which Mexican migrants traveled back and forth across the border to work in agriculture, saying it “worked for people at the time.”

“It’s an old story, but now you’ve got the largest number of refugees since World War II because of Syria and now Ukraine and other problems,” he said.

He went on to criticize Texas governor Greg Abbott for busing more than 10,000 migrants from the border to “sanctuary cities” to draw attention to the border crisis.

“What’s happening in Venezuela, more than 2 million refugees pouring into first Colombia then nearby countries, has created unprecedented new challenges and meanwhile provides opportunities for stunts like Gov. Abbott’s — sending his refugees to some place that he thinks is advocating for a broad-minded policy that it doesn’t have to live with,” he said.

He also criticized Florida governor Ron DeSantis, who sent 50 migrants via plane from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard.

“DeSantis sending those people to Martha’s Vineyard was amazing. That may come back to haunt him a little bit,” the former president said.

Clinton acknowledged in his own 1995 State of the Union address as president that “All Americans, not only in the States most heavily affected but in every place in this country, are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country.”

He added at the time:

The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants. The public service they use impose burdens on our taxpayers. That’s why our administration has moved aggressively to secure our borders more by hiring a record number of new border guards, by deporting twice as many criminal aliens as ever before, by cracking down on illegal hiring, by barring welfare benefits to illegal aliens. In the budget I will present to you, we will try to do more to speed the deportation of illegal aliens who are arrested for crimes, to better identify illegal aliens in the workplace as recommended by the commission headed by former Congresswoman Barbara Jordan. We are a nation of immigrants. But we are also a nation of laws. It is wrong and ultimately self-defeating for a nation of immigrants to permit the kind of abuse of our immigration laws we have seen in recent years, and we must do more to stop it.

Clinton later signed into law the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996.

He was pretty aggressive about deporting people, so I give him credit for that. I wish Biden would take some advice from Clinton and Obama.

I'm pretty sure Biden has deported 3 times the amount of people that Clinton did by year so what is your point?
I really doubt that:

You party’s leader demonizes immigrants of color and from “ shothole” countries. He also said he prefers his immigrants from Norway

Yeah but Norway has full state funded healthcare and funding for universal basic living if someone doesn't want to work. I play WoW with some norweigens who don't wanna work. They're taken care of and get a apartment and utilities and universal basic income.

So why the fuck would they want to immigrate to the USA?

Pretty much the case with all of western europe.

I really doubt that:
You do realize those totals are based off of the completion of their term(s) in office. That is the total of Bill's 8 years as President, which is why you don't see Biden on that list as he is only 1.75 years into his first term.

It doesn't mean you won't be right in the end, but it's to soon to determine based on term totals.

The Scandinavian countries are quite different from most of the rest of Western Europe.

“there is a limit” to how many migrants the United States can take without causing disruption.

What? WHAT???
Face it America... WE NEED MIGRANTS and IMMIGRANTS, legal or not.
Legal or not!!!
Since Trump threatened to build that wall, and illegal immigrants have been threatened, locked up like animals, and played as political pawns, since then America hasn't had a decent staffed fast food restaurant. Nor, a decently staffed restaurant of any kind.

Everything closes at 6 pm. Many establishments skip days all together. No one is staffed in customer service. Grocery stores are closing much too early. Walmart once operated 24/7, but no more. You can't get a decent burger, no one will fix your roof, store shelves are bare, no one will mow your lawn, and the disruption to life goes on and on.

Face it.... Americans just do not want to work those go-nowhere, low pay jobs. However.... the illegals will. Gladly will. And once did until a fat orange paranoid piss-ant was elected by racist idiots then screwed everything up.
Illegal immigrants have never been too proud to fill those job vacancies, as Americans are. WE NEED ILLEGALS. We need illegals who are willing to work. All those immigrants waiting to cross the border should be allowed in, given an apron and a job assignment, then bussed to their new American job.

THEN, maybe America could go back to some kind of normalcy post Covid, post Trump i.e. the two great American plagues.
Walmart could open 24/7 once again, you could once again get a burger after 6 pm, you could visit your favorite restaurant and enjoy the experience well into the midnight hours.

Until America accepts illegals, welcomes illegals, admits the value of the illegal immigrant, and respects the stability the illegal immigrant brings to a community, until that day things will never return back to "normal" in America.
Come-on people, you know I'm right....

But that just shows how horrid the conditions are in the country they are fleeing to still want to come to the shithole country called America. And even though they walked through Central America, they won’t continue the trek into Canada let alone all the way to Norway

Best I can find for Biden is he was at 700,000 way back in January this year. 700,000 in one year...

There seems to be some fuckery going on between those sources.. Lets take Bill Clinton for example. First one says he deported over 12 million during his term. The other says only 800K.... I suspect the first source is the same source 13Gigatons used, and most likely is not remotely accurate.

Honestly, are you trying to tell us that you hate immigrants? Bigotry aside, rating Presidents by the number of deportations is about as useful as rating them by the amount of legal immigrations in or out the country during their time, or say by the number of minutes they spent on phone calls or writing letters.

The amuedge one says they are counting voluntary departures along with deportations. American Military University, where you can probably major in crayon eating.

If you listen to Bill Clinton's 1995 state of the union speech you'll understand where Trump got his rhetoric from. Trump used to donate to the Clintons, as of today Clinton's speech would sound pretty far right.
