Bill Buckner threw out the first pitch at Fenway today, and it was one of the best ovation's I've seen in a long time.

I'm a Yankee fan and glad to see that. No one should ever be treated like he did for that long.

A slow roller to first.........

Anyway, that was nice.

Maybe, it'll stop some of his nightmares. ;)

I guess the two championships in four seasons took the sting out of 86 for the fans.

A well deserved salute to a guy who has had to bear more grief than he deserved over the past 20+ years.

What surprises me is that Buckner got condemned while Pesky is hailed as a hero.

Pesky was supposedly responsible for blowing 1946 WS (probably not completely his fault) by holding the ball and allowing a run to score on a long double to center field.

I guess time cures all ills though and I'm glad that Buckner finally has this crap off his back.

I thought it was nice of the Red Sox organization to do this. For years he has been ripped to shred. He must've felt horrible.

It's nice to see the ovation he got today. I guess it easy to forgive when you win 2 championship in 4 years.

Same reception he got from the Shea stadium crowd in the 1987 exhibition game between the Mets & Sox. :D

I always felt sorry for the guy ... anybody could have made that error & Boston still could have won that game or game 7 to take the seris.

No one could know what that dude has been through for the last 20 years...

Great move to finally honor him, even if its only being done now because they can't blame him for not having won a world series anymore. :frown:

little known fact:

dwight evans (recieving buckner's pitch) holds the record for earliest home run in a season (opening day, top of the 1st, first pitch - tigers stadium, detroit 1984)
