Biking shirts: What are those little pockets sewn on the backside for?

I got a couple for Xmas, are they for water bottles? Seems kind of awkward for that. Give me a hint...

I put my CO2, multi-tool (+keys) and 1 tube back there ...

During a race before I put a water bottle ...

Some put their leg & arm warmers or light jacket in there. Pll that ride well don't move the upper body that much. We are talking road bikes not mountain bikes.:sun:

normally just food

but in pro-cycling the helpers use them also to get waterbottles to the frontman

Pretty much whatever. I keep keys, food, my mp3 player, maps, etc in there depending on what I'm doing and how far I'm going. Heavy stuff like tools, spare tubes and CO2 inflater thingys go in my under-seat pack.
