Bigscreen HDTV Question

The wife bought me a RCA 52" HDTV Widescreen for my Birthday. Great Gift!
Now I hooked up standard RCA Video and Sound jacks and didnt care for the quailty so I hooked up the S-Video instead and it did improve the signal. Someone told me to use the Monster Video componet cables for a even better picture, however those cables are like $100 and I need more than 6ft I need closer to 10-12ft to reach. So does the Monster cables make that much of a differnce and worth the extra money??? Any info or tips please!

EDIT: Im using DISH Network with no HD signal, just Sat/DVD

Use Radio Shack or equally inexpensive component cables. Do NOT waste your money on Monster. They are the snake oil of the AV business.

You need componet cables for HDTV video. S video connections do not provide an HDTV signal.

You did not say what the other end of these cables are hooked up to though, so I don't know what you are watching.

Skip Monster cables. Go to Best Buy, and get the cheaper cables they carry. They will work just as well.

Not to thread crap with a rant, but why does it seem like you can't buy anything but Monster Cable at retail locations anymore? Even Target and Wal-Mart hardly carry just regular old cable anymore. It seems like Monster Cable is muscling out the market.

BB carries Acoustic Research which is a reasonably priced high quality cable. But even cheaper is Radio Shack cable.

Target should have component cables by RCA and Wal-Mart carries Magnavox (I believe) component cables. The cables are pretty good. Well insulated and not too hard on the wallet.

I'm going to be dead serious here and challenge ANYONE to tell the visual difference between a $30 Radio Shack Cable and a $100+ Monster cable in a blind test.

It's a HUGE ripoff, folks. It's snake oil at it's finest.

What are you using for an input signal?

I actually prefer my satellite feed to my HDTV to come in from the basic coax cable instead of Svideo or component.

For basic standard pictures over cable or satellite the coax tends to soften the artifacting over other types of connections.

i suggest going to avsforum.com and ask people that know what they are talking about when it comes to cables. but you do need component cables for HD, svideo wont cut it.

Im using DISH Network with no HD signal. Not worth the money to upgrade to HD on Dish and 5 channels in HD.
Would the new cables help with my Sat signal or just my DVD signal???

dvd(480p via component) > sat (non-hd sdtv via s-video)



get component for dvd.........s-video for sat.

Um, no. There is a different between component cables and AV cables. If you're gooking up something to component, you NEED to make sure they are component cables.

For the DVD you want component. For the nonHD sat box, you'll probably be stuck with S-video.

Call Dish and get an HD box. Trust me, it's worth it.

Oh, and do not try using AV cables for component. They are not the same.
