I'm just curious. There are 4 big draws in a stock laptop:

LCD Backlight
CPU/Cooling fan
Hard drive
Motherboard/onboard circuitry.

So which has the biggest impact? I'm leaning towards the backlight...

assuming a mobile cpu, i'd say the screen, but that's depending on the level of brightness set. a lower brightness and significantly improve battery life.

I beleive bluetooth and wireless plays a good role in battery life.

But niether matches the lcd backlight.

I think the LCD is still the hungriest component....
Second should be the CPU, third the optical drive. Hard diskj a distanrt fourth and last the motherboard circuitry.

Wireless has almost no impact in the battery life of my M6805 (802.11g) as it takes aprox 5 minutes from the average 3 hrs I get.... but changing the LCD intenstiy from 8 down to 5 (11 total steps) saves aprox 15-18 minutes of the battery... I haven't tried lower, but it should help a little more.

backlight, then wireless, then optical drives (if constantly used), then CPU, then HD, then mobo circuitry - this would be for my C400
