I am about to go to a call back interview at my top-choice tier-1 law firm. If I get this summer position, I am all but guaranteed a full-time job in 18 months.

This is it! Anyone have any big last minute tips? What do I say when they ask if I "have any questions for us?"

An HOUR early? That seems very excessive to me. It would give me a negative impression.

When he graduates in 18 months he's guaranteed a job. He's interviewing for a summer position in summer 08. Summer positions at law firms, especially really good ones, are tooth and nail competitive. You can't expect to get in with a good firm without working there during the summer or for a judge.

Right now I'm in law school. It's one of the top 5 L.A. based firms. I'll probably post which one if I get the job. ;)

Thanks for the well wishes!

Good luck! The job sounds like a nightmare to me, but I have always shied away from big firms. Actually we recently hired a guy from Skadden Arps, and it sounds like a Brazil/Kafka-esque version of corporate hell. At least the money will be good, and if you don't like it you'll be well situated to move to a smaller firm.

Good luck.

When they ask you if you have any questions, ask them where they see you in 12 months.

Good luck! The money and experience are good at big law firms. Then you can quit later. (Well, unless you're a soulless drone and want to make partner.)

Relax. Put yourself out there as an intelligent person who'd be fun to work with. Hopefully you can talk to them about the work and the law and show you actually know a little something. Lawyers have no idea how to interview anyone. They're busy doing their work, don't really feel like interviewing, are unprepared, and just want it to be relatively painless.

Just be warned that the girl on the beach will be a setup. They do things like that, in case the other enticements don't work.

I suspect that you are pesonable.

You do need to know that the way of life that you've lived isn't tenable for the future.

First of all, congratulations on the interview! Second, if they ask if you have any questions, at least ask ONE question. Heck, ask something about the company or if they offer stock options for full-time employees. (something like that) Just go in prepared and give a response for anything asked.

Best of luck!
