biggest dissapointments of 2008

For me it was Fallout 3, don't get me wrong this is the BEST EVER "oblivion mod" but I expected so much more and the game just left an empty spot, unlike it's predecessors...

On a lighter note, DNF is still nowhere in sight....maybe next year 😉
 
I will have to go with Spore, since I've returned it and got a refund, the last time I did that was about a decade ago and it was for a console game which was really broken (N64 cartridge, somehow it refused to work), and it's the very first game ever I've returned because I actually got bored of it and saw no future for it in my book.

I'd have to give FarCry 2 the honorable mention, that one is also very close to be a "return it because it sucks" case, but I'll keep it, I'll just leave it uninstalled for the moment, the editor has potential as it is, it's not even the full SDK, and I do appreciate the multi-player enough so far, but right now it's on hold, I kept my saved game, I'll probably re-install it when a new patch comes out or when mods start to kick in.

We were very focused, if anything, on making a game for more casual players. ?Spore? has more depth than, let?s say, ?The Sims? did. But we looked at the Metacritic scores for ?Sims 2?, which was around 90, and something like ?Half-Life?, which was 97, and we decided ? quite a while back ? that we would rather have the Metacritic and sales of ?Sims 2? than the Metacritic and sales of ?Half-Life?.

Another game falls short because they catered to "casual" and "non-traditional" gamers. Soon, there will be no games for "traditional" gamers.
 
Biggest disappointment? Direction of DRM,

so I couldn't even allow myself to be disappointed by Spore, because I have to boycott EA, so I couldn't even buy it.
 
I didn't play Spore but I've enjoyed every game I've played this year to be honest. Can't think of any major disappointments. I'm pretty easy to please though.
 
Spore, and anyone who says otherwise is grossly mistaken. Maybe Farcry 2 and Fallout 3 didn't meet expectations, but Spore had more hype than all of those games combined and was also the biggest piece of gaming fail released this year.
 
Does Starcraft 2 and Dawn of War 2 count? The disappointment comes from the fact that they weren't released in 2008 😛
 
Well, I bought Warcraft 3 battle chest this year and the Frozen Throne expansion was a disappointment. It just sucks so much playing as elves just after playing as the undead, I couldn't force myself to finish the expansion even with cheats.

For games released this year, I boycotted Fry Cry 2 and Spore (didn't pirate them, still have Starcraft: Brood Wars to finish) so wasn't disappointed there, Warhammer Battlemarch would have to be my biggest let down. Didn't have the internet to realize I should of gotten Rome: Total War instead.
