biggest bullshit traffic violation ever

there's a law that you can not use route 66 from 4pm-6pm monday-friday if you are driving alone. You must have a passenger with you. The cops set up traps as you exit off route 66 and pulled people over. As I was waiting for my ticket, at least 25 single driver cars passed by me and the cops were busy with others. I exited route 66 at 4:03 PM (3 freaking minutes). I've never even heard of this law. I just got my license in January

The ticket is $125
what's the damn point of saving and living cheaply if all of it gets taken by the state govt
Let me remind everyone that route 66 is a major route used by many to get to and leave work every damn day

That's pretty annoying- why not just a well-enforced carpool lane? Was there a sign about this that you ignored?

But really?

Ignorance of the law is not an excuse. At least that's what I'm told.

what kind of stupid law is that? 4-6 pm which is the time most people get off work and use this major freeway to get home

it is to encourage carpoolers and not single passenger commuters such as yourself

compared to the other BS pulled routinely pulled by traffic cops in NOVA, this is boring

expensive lesson to learn, but there are signs stating this EVERYWHERE. As far as other drivers not getting in trouble, thats life... and doesn't change the fact that you were in violation.

Just buy an inflatable doll, dress it up, and sit it in the passenger seat next time so you won't get pulled over.

How old are you?

I-66 HOV-2 (Two or More People)

Inside the Beltway

Both lanes are reserved for HOV-2 eastbound in the morning and westbound in the afternoon.

From: Capital Beltway (Interstate 495)
To: Theodore Roosevelt Bridge
Days: Monday - Friday

* Eastbound: 6;30 a.m to 9:00 a.m.
* Westbound: 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

the cops had a freaking field day today because at least 50 cars were pulled on that exit

I was the second person to get pulled over, I counted at least 25 who got lucky and passed by, two other cops showed up and they threw a traffic violation party

welcome to the wasted resources in virginia for hov roadways; meanwhile the regular traffic lanes haven't seen improvement in decades.

idiot. it's called HOV. there are signs everywhere. learn the rules, or stop bitching.

nowadays, EVERY exit is staked out by police.

i got lucky. in my 1st year driving on I66 cops werent at every exit, and most of the time no cops around 4pm.

that fateful weekday i was coming back alone from a roadtrip to NJ, and had a radar detector. (radar dectors are illegal in VA.) i was just too lazy to take it off my windshield. well, i exited at 4:15pm on I66, and saw a cop giving a ticket to a car he pulled over. i turned pale.

i was scared, not because of HOV, but because of the radar dectetor. he looked directly at me, then turned back to giving the guy his ticket. *PHEW* 🙂

that was the last time i ever had a radar detector in display while driving in VA.
and the last time i ever got on I66 alone during HOV restriction.

You weren't on I-66's main lanes. You were in the HOV2 lanes.

ALL of I66 is HOV till you go outside of the beltway.

yes, the entire highway is HOV2 for the last 10 miles.

I think most of us would agree VA has some of the most insane traffic laws in the states. Heaven forbid you live here and get stopped for speeding.

Next time you're on 66 at 3:59 pm, slam on your brakes in the middle of the road and sit there until 6:31. I mean, if you exit at 4:03 and are in violation, they obviously don't want you to exit at the next available opportunity, so the only thing you can do is sit there until the timeframe passes.

I hope the douchebags in CA dont get ideas like this.

I'm sure it's already being looked at. The only thing CA hates more than business is cars. We're working very hard at getting rid of both.
