Biggest 1st picked QB bust in the past 10 years?

There's been a few of them, and I've only included the first QB picked in each draft.

On the other side of things, first QBs picked this decade also include Matt Ryan, Carson Palmer, Michael Vick, Chad Pennington, and Eli Manning, who've had their share of success (and downturns) as well.

My thoughts:

Smith - never should've been #1 picks, never showed any potential while in the league..

Carr - put in a terrible situation, lasted a few years but like Couch below will unfortunately never recover

Vince Young - built off his amazing last year in college, particularly that last game, but shows that athletic abilities just can't replace hard work and good decision making in the NFL, still may get another shot as soon as this year if the Titans keep losing. Has officially ended the era of mobile QBs being good franchise ones that started circa Randall Cunningham.

Jamarcus - Was described by Mike Mayock as having the most upside and best skill set he'd ever seen since Elway, but questioned his desire to play football--and again shows that you have to be dedicated to your craft in order to achieve anything.

Tim Couch - Was in a loaded QB class that included Daunte, Donovan--but was placed in a horrible situation in which an expansion team got glorified flag football players that no one could have succeeded in and was never able to recover..

i felt sorry for david carr. of maybe the 2 or 3 texans games i've watched of him, his o-line was getting him killed every single game.

If you combined Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Joe Montana, and Dan Marino into 1 qb, he would've gotten decimated too.

I think it's still too early to decide on Russell and Young, although any hope for them reaching their full potential is fading fast.

-As much as I think Vince Young is overrated garbage, he wasn't a #1 overall pick and he's had some success
-Its WAY too early to try to label Russell
-Alex Smith sorta sucks, but he shouldn't have been the pick anyway, it should have been Rodgeres
-Carr was actually decent, but his offensive line was beyond bad
-Couch was also in a bad position, but looked awful himself.

I'm torn between Alex Smith and Tim Couch. I'm going with Couch because I don't think anyone really had very high expectations of Smith.

Where's Leinart?

Leinart was the #10 pick, plus he hasn't had a chance to play, with Warner's resurgence. Much like Russell, its foolish to try to label him a bust right now.

He was benched for Warner.

He listens to an ipod on the sidelines and is very detached from teh game. When he played in the preseason it is clear he still cannot read a defense. He has his good moments but not enough to win football games.

he was taken after v.young

Meh, that's stupid to only include the first one.

I'd say Leinart is a bigger bust than Young. He's started 16 games across two seasons, so you've had enough time to evaluate him. At least Young can make big plays with his legs.

I'm going with Vince Young especially for all that was made of "OMG HOW DID THE TEXANS PASS HIM UP FOR LOL MARIO WILLIAMS?" Who is laughing now? His draft stock was based on one game. He has shown Z E R O NFL-calibre skills. Can't read a defense. Wonderlic? wonderlol? Man he is awful.

David Carr I think could still be a serviceable NFL player. Alex Smith, meh. No hype there, just a dumb pick. Couch was ruined by a terrible, terrible organization.

Alex Smith, drafted 1st overall, complete failure after 3 years in the league but got more than a few starts - perfect candidate for a bust.

Going to have to say Russell and his ridiculous contract from that bunch. Given that he plays on a really bad team, but I would expect better numbers than that for a first overall pick and with that type of money.

I wouldn't put Young up there since he does have talent and proved he can win with a team as long as his head is screwed in tight. David Carr and Tim Couch can both play if they don't get sacked every other down.
