Bigger LCD or Smaller LED?

As the title says, I am in the market for a new monitor because mine is crapping out. I have found an Acer 21.5" LED for about $139, or an eMachines 23" LCD for the same price.

I currently have an Acer 22", so I don't think .5 smaller will be a too difference, but 1" bigger might be a nice upgrade. Would the LED be a worthy investment?

Both monitors are LCDs, LED isn't some kind of new display technology, it's just a new type of backlight. What really matters is what technology the panel uses. They both have crappy TN panels so I would go for the bigger one.

how crappy/old? this is just a temporary fix till i build a new rig this summer.

For what it's worth, I would not even bother worrying about LED backlighting unless it's RGB LED. Most LED backlights are white, which for an LED is actually not very much of the color spectrum.

thats what my feelings were when I was looking to TV's back in December.

Since you already have 22", you should go much larger than 23". Go at least 24", preferably more.

Oh didn't know there was a budget. Then yea you're stuck with whatever you can get at that price.

sorry didnt mention that. was sort of implied, this is only to get me along till late this summer when I fully upgrade my computer, and then it will be handed down to my gf.

Resolution not screen size. bigger screens are good when your sitting a distance away from the screen. But sitting close up as with a pc size doesn't matter just the resolution. So the question is what gpu do you have and what resolution can it support? Can it support those screens native and run it?

I run a powercolor 5770, and I oc my q6600 to 3.0. both of those monitors are the same resolution, I also probably wouldn't put it to max res.

Looks like I won't have too many problems in BC2. I don't run AA/AF because it makes the game look like crap, and I certainly don't run ultra-high because of the same reason. Other than that my card will still be punching CS:Source in the face.

acer is pretty good on the warranty, should be three years.

it was only 2 on the monitor i bought =\ I did call before I posted here.

I was thinking I could fix it myself, it seems that when I turn the PC on...it wont start up unless I unplug/replug then pump the power button on an off a bunch. maybe it is some bad wiring in there or something?


Btw I ended up getting the 23" acer that was on sale at microcenter, it was 139 and looked so much better than the e-machines. Its an Acer G235H

id try replacing an inverter board.

lcds arent that hard to work on.

get the one that fits your pocket. Like it was mentioned. One is just a LCD with a backlite. There's no huge display difference. And you don't sound like a guy who's too fussy. So the cheapest one I would say
