Bigger HD's

I kept reading in November that in 2008 a couple of HD manufactures were planning on releasing HD's larger than 1.5TB.

I am getting ready to buy a new HD for storage and because of the wife I only have one shot at this for the next year and I always need the extra storage.

So, any rumors, thoughts, etc.

I don't know the situation with the wife, but don't let her own you. I can't tell you how many guys saying this are making me a). bang my head in frustration against the wall about how a guy is willing to live with a second mother, and b). fear marriage. Can you imagine if a woman said something like "I can't afford Merle Norman because of the husband. I have to stick with Target brand"? I think not. I believe the term is "lipstick feminism", and if the way she treated you were ever reversed you could be sued for neglect or something worse. I have decided never to allow myself to be owned like that through sex. Now, on the other hand, if you all are just poor then that's entirely something different; and best of wishes to you.

But to answer your question, I could forsee 1.5TB by November this year, yes. We've had 1TB drives out for a bit of time now. Perhaps 1.25TB in May, 1.5 in November? But I can't say there's a market for this. Not many people have Blu-Ray/HD-DVD readers in their computer, so not many people are going to be building HTPCs and wanting to have all their videos ready to go at the click of a button. Beyond that, it's kinda hard to imagine needing 1+ TB at the moment. You can get lots of TV shows and stuff, but even with that it's not that big of a deal to just delete them; ie there aren't many shows out there worth keeping. So I wouldn't be suprised if they didn't release new drives because it's unlikely many people would be interested in buying them; beyond the tech crowd that likes to have every version of linux saved to their harddrive :D.

edit: to sum up the first paragraph, what I'm getting at is "you already commited your life to her, what more does she want?" For some reason it's ok for women to treat men like this but when men treat women like this it's abuse or something.

Its more on the line that money is a issue and that she would make me feel guilty if I bought these drives even though they are for her TV shows, nature programs, and movies. I too have a lot of crap. I like the history series, they eat up a lot of room. Also, who knows when torrent downloading will be stopped. So, I keep everything that I like. Currently I have a 250, 2x320, and a 500 and all have about 30 gigs free each.

I just don't want to buy a 1TB drive for $260 in January and then in March they release a 1.5 TB or even a 2 TB (I have heard some rumors) even though I highly doubt that will happen. I just want to check all my angles. I probably chicken out from buying a 1TB and get a 750GB though.

Nice rant. 6/10
