Bigger Hard Drive, Slower PCMark05 Score?

I just bought a WD 250GB SATA 300 7200RPM drive with 16MB cache and I'm actually getting about 20 points LESS on PCMark05 than I was with my old Maxtor SATA 100GB. Same exact build and hardware, otherwise. Is that normal?

I went from 5842 to 5820...
 
Yes bigger drives are generally slower all other things being equal. I seriously doubt you can see that 22 point drop in your PC Mark score. Probably should have gotten a 10K RPM drive.
 
The hdd's can't be exactly the same since one is a WD while the other is Maxtor. In addition, there is the number of platters on each hdd. I'm not sure how many platters on the WD or the Maxtor. But it does make a difference in speed since it makes a difference in areal density of the hdd. But for 20 points, I doubt you can tell the difference in actual performance.
 
You should try and repeat the same test at least 4-5 times. Then get the average score and compare. This is the basic principle of benchmarking!!!
 
I doubt that you would notice the difference, but a larger HD is bigger and takes more time to read from. Hardly a big deal.

Don't worry guy. There is no holy grail when it comes to hdd. No one can tell exactly when it will fail! Not even the makers or creators of it! Sure there are those which perform faster, but it's nothing but a hairline more than others which is not even noticed in real world performance. It's your $$ and your system!
