Bigger Battery?

Is it time for phone makers to start rethinking the idea of a phone? Would you pay for a premium phone like say one with the specs of a OPO3 T, 64Gigs and slightly more thicker phone with a 10,000 mAh battery? A phone that would only be needed to be plugged in weekly?

Sure it might be thicker, it might be a bit heavier. But, also, with the thickness, one could have better speakers with some pronounced bass tones.... the buttons could have a quality feel to them. Maybe with a thicker body, the optics in a camera could be improved. Or one could even add in active cooling. Who knows.

Also, it could have a better feel in the hands being slightly thicker. Would you sacrifice having a thicker phone to cram in your pocket, for these better options and features?

No one likes to carry around a brick, but... if you could design your own phone... what options would you want to have in way of sacrificing space and weight? Personally, I think having a bigger battery, you know, to jump start your car... is the way to go. Even tho, my phone is wireless charging and currently at 3K mAh. When I go on trips, not worrying about charging the phone would be a big plus for me.

Hmm, how about the battery? Probably at least 5X what you got now! I think it would be cool to have a huge battery, but, not that phone. I don't like the idea of glueing on a bigger battery pack to the back side of the phone, would rather have it properly installed from the factory.

I could go for 4500-5000mAh. 10000 is excessive in my opinion. Too heavy and would take too long to charge.

Not even 3x the battery capacity. You throw around this 5x number and I don't know why... it insinuates that you believe all phones have a capacity less than 2000mAh, which is pretty much only true in Apple land these days. You even admit your current phone has 3000, and I'll let you figure out on your own what 5x 3000 is.

I also take issue with their claim that you get 10-15 days battery life. If my 3450mAh barely lasts a day, then I don't see how 10,000 mAh will last even 5 days... let alone the 10-15 they claim.

I'd love more battery life, and would give up room to get it. But a modular battery on the outside of my current phone would be just fine if it was cost effective enough.

Nope, not in apple land, well, my screen is 5.7" so, I guess that's the biggest draw on the phone. Anyway, even with heavy (for me) usage my phone still is above 60%. Average useage is about 80%, so, that's how I factor in what works for me. But my phone is relatively new, and a popular flag ship type name, as one should know not all batteries are created equal and the more you use it, the more the battery life diminishes.

They claim on the phone I quoted (3.5 hour charge time). doesn't seem to take that long for a battery of it's size. Anyway, I just figured I'd throw it out there... Even the S8 is suppose to have a 4000 mAh so... the size is increasing across the bar. Maybe a few years from now 10000mAh will be the new norm!

Personally, phones have gotten too big for me. When a device makes my arm tired just holding it for a while, it's too big, and that's exactly what happens with a lot of these 5.5"+ phones, especially once you put a case on them because they're all completely covered in glass. I replaced my 4.7" Moto X with a 5" Pixel mainly because 5 inches was the smallest flagship non-iPhone I could find.

So yeah, maybe some people could use even bigger devices, but for me the ideal is probably in the 4.0-4.5" range, maybe approaching 5 inches if bezels approach zero.

You know what phone had a week of battery life? My last flip phone.

My brother in law is still rocking a GS3 (seems ancient, I know), but he stuck a bigass battery in it and new cover, all from Amazon, and he still loves it. He's not enamored by the new, thinner phones and can see no reason to upgrade to "new", when that means a non-replaceable battery. As for me, no, I don't need that kind of battery life and I don't want a screen bigger than the one I have.

I wouldn't mind a slim elastomer cover with an incorporated battery that doubled my current battery size and just slipped over the phone. I have put a cover on every phone I have ever had except for flip phones back in the day. My LG V20 is right on the very edge of being too big, when I run I have to remove the soft case and put it in a Ziploc bag to get it to barely fit in the running belt or chest pockets I have.

However I would not want a phone with that much battery capacity if the weight doubled, I 'd rather just carry a USB battery for those rare times I am away from a charger. I still would rather have a removable battery and sd card...

I have zero interest in a fixed battery of any kind. I would pay for a removeable battery of reasonable size. I consider my GS5 battery reasonably sized.
