At NewEgg.

$200 is quite a lot for a network adapter card (surely, that Unreal-inspired heatspreader can't cost them that much to make). I'm pretty skeptical, I have to say -- I can't imagine that onboard Ethernet would tax a modern processor significantly. How much of a difference would this thing really make?

I fail to see the benefit for gaming, all other upstream factors considered. For serious applications, cards already exist that offload certain TCP functions to a dedicated ASIC or FPGA; however, the API to these in vendor-provided drivers makes it very difficult for the host O/S to secure and/or regulate. Six of one, half a dozen of another, as they say. ;)

But, if $200 makes you feel good... that's a cheap price to pay to get your fix. :D

I don't doubt though, that there are some people out there who would buy that solely for the heatspreader. Even if this thing cost $20, I don't have the PCI slots to spare for a marginal gain in network speed and a tiny drop in CPU usage. But you guys have to admit, it's a conversation piece, especially in a windowed case. Besides, $200 is pocket change for those people who own the 8800 Ultra ;).

I fully admit I should be the last person to comment about what is practical based on my personal tastes in network equipment.

A conversation piece, it is. (as evidenced by this thread :p)

Edit: Actually, I just read the description. I saw this about a year ago and what really bothered me was this:
If some opponents complain that your ping is ?too low,? then PingThrottle allows you to adjust it a little higher ? then dial it back down to go in for the kill.

The audience they cater to with that statement alone tells me I will never be a purveyor of their products, whatsoever. IMHO, that mentality is juvenile and immature.

I actually do not object to their selling the product, if you have a Billion $$ a year industry for Cell Ringbones, any thing is ?Kosher?, even $200 NIC, and $400 PSU.

Some one told me that he is waiting to get a call about a better job offer and if he has cool Ringtones he has a better chance to get it

The sad part is that the people that consume such things are ashamed of their social weaknesses, and try to justify social habit with none existing technological "mambo jumbo".

Sounds like a waste of money because the biggest problem to online gamers is still that part of the pipe and process that is out of their hands (telco, cableco, shared bandwidth, etc).

It's more than a waste of money, it's down right insulting. But like all things gamer related, they eat it up like candy.

Bose doesn't even hold a candle to this thing. It is the ultimate snake oil.
