Here's the deal...wife wants a computer upstairs, so I get her a Dell, with the standard card, figuring I would add a much better card. Well I find out I can't, they have a new mini connector which doesn't fit any PCMCIA or Cardbuses. I have a Dlink dgl4300...setup with my main system no probs. I go to setup the wireless..it sees it fine, great connection. BUT everytime ii try to access the Internet..IE or Firefox(to check if it's a browser issue) the link gets terminated. I pinged a site..ESPN. Pings great...till you hit IE then a timeout. The I started noticing that my MAIN CPU disconnects from the internet at the SAME TIME...Had my friend come over who does this for a living..he can't figure it out with static addresses, DNS's and whatever else. Called Dell...card looks great! Must be the router....Called DLINK..they can't figure it out either, after 3 disconnects from tech suppot! :(.....since the mani puter disconnects too they figure it's the router. OK..Just went out and got a Linksys. Nice setup program....I cannot get MY computer setup hardwired. OK..No biggie right now. Gewt the laptop! Sees the router, great connection YOU'RE ALL SET!!! NOT..IE open ..disconnect... I'm not in the mood for Dell support right now. Anyone have any ideas? The Laptop hardwires fine to the net. XP systems. I may go get a USB wireless card, stop the onboard card and see if that works. But aside from that and trying Dell again, which I will tomorrow...am looking for some help and ideas to try. Networking is not my forte so any help is much appreciated!
Thanks Doc

that gave me a headache

but it sounds like wireless is iffy and hardwired it works. have you tried changing wireless channels in the router?

my suggestion would be that you rewrite your first post so we can actually tell what is going on. No offense, but I gave up after a few sentences and even that didn't make any sense.

Dell laptop disconnects from the connection whenever IE is loaded. Pinging a site works fine, unitl IE is opended which creates a timeout disconnect. Dell says their card is fine. I have tried two different routers with the same effect. We initially thought the first router was aproblem because my hardwired CPU would alos disconnect from the internet when the wirelss did. But the second does it as well. Anyone have a clue? DO the USB netowrki cards work well? I may try that. Dell laptops use a mini connect for addon cards which make finding one impossible.
