So yesterday while watching my kids ride up and down the sidewalk in their bikes i started thinking about the fun i had as a kid on my Big Wheel....for all you guys old enough to remember those plastic tricycles

Riding down the sidewalk leaving a flurry of leaves in my wake feeling as if i was going a 100 miles an hour..then lifting the handle on the side and performing a spinout which left me 180 degrees fromt he direction i was going perfect for going back down the way i came.

i got green sidewinder, i think it was called, after the wheels eventually wore off...but it wasnt the same

so what was your favorite toy as a kid

I remember the Big Green Machine it had to handles to steer it. I just had a regular Red, Blue and yellow big wheel with a flat spot on the front tire from skidding too much. My favorite toys were a hammer and nails plus a shovel. We used to go out in the woods and dig pit forts and have rock fight with kids from the other hoods. :)

Big wheels were great. I was always jealous because my brother's had this fancy 'new' technlogy - the handbrake. :D I had to stop the old-fashioned/Fred Flintstone way.

So many parents get their kids battery-powered Power Wheels these days though. It's cute, but sad to see that some of them will basically never have a pedal-powered toy. They'll go straight from that to the battery-powered scooter. :(

There's still trees in the woods near my parents house that have some of the old ladder boards nailed on them that we used to get to our tree forts. It's no wonder my dad was ticked that we used some of his scrap pressure-treated stuff. :)

I found a metal big wheel made by Razor on clearance at walmart once for $15, originally $80. This one had plastic back wheels so you still got that cool sound but the front wheel is a regular bike tire. The brakes are a hand brake mounted on the handle.

Now all the kids have play dates and sit in the house playing video games. We didn't have Emo's when I was a kid, we would beat all the Emo out of 'em.
