Big Water 760i and Danger Den Maze5 GPU water block

I want to get the Big Water 760i and I'm sure I can figure out how to install it once I get it. I've never had a water cooling setup before so I have a few n00b questions.

1. Do I have to use Thermaltake's products only when I'm using the Big Water 760i kit?
2. If not, can I link the Danger Den Maze5 into the loop along with the CPU block?\
3. I had many different choices of "fittings" for the Danger Den Maze5. What should I know about it? I want to attach it to a EVGA GTX 460.
 
1. No, you do not have to use Thermaltake's products. In fact, I would suggest you avoid the Big Water and Thermaltake altogether when putting together a watercooling loop.
2. Watercooling is fairly modular as long as you have the correct fittings and a powerful enough pump.
3. You need to keep in mind two things:
a)what is the inner diameter of the tubing (and if you use compression, outer as well)
b)does the inlet/outlet spacing of the waterblock require angled fittings

You should check out performance-pcs, frozencpu, or sidewindercomputers for quality water cooling components. I'm sure most members here will agree that a custom built loop will trump most pre-assembled kits (especially Thermaltake's offerings).

Do not buy thermaltake waterproducts period!

They suck, there horrible, and they dont perform anywhere near water worthy.
Dont even look at Zalman either.

Save yourself the headache, and either go full custom, or you can try a cpu only entry level thing like a Corsairs H#O.

But the only kits i'll recomend are ones by Swiftech, and XSPC.

However if your going on a migration from air to water, you should of done some research, and you should of realized what a custom kit vs a toy kit is.
Meaning... if you think because its a kit from a name source u knew, and you expect it to be noob proof, then your greatly mistaken my friend.

The more toyish the kit is, the more skill you will need to make it work.
And watercooling + noob proof is NEVER in the same sentence.

I was more concern about space. The Big Water can fit into 2 drive bays. That's exactly what I want. I have no problem switching to higher quality items, but where do I put everything?

oh man...

Ok.. first off, water is not a magic medium which can take a gignormous amount of heat.

Like all things in physics, Heat is energy, and it can not be destoryed.

What water does is moves heat from one location to another. If the location which the heat is moved too is not adequate, your system temperature will increase to dangerous levels.

I highly recommend you do some research on watercooling and not just jump the gun.

If you go on the main page, you will see a collection of stickys, i have 2 for water cooling, i suggest you read both and learn at least the basics. Then do more research b4 you change mediums.

Air has gotten to a point where it can chase entry level water, so it might be in your best interest to just stay on air.
 
QUESTION: 1. Do we like the XSPC Rasa 750 RS240? 2. Will a loop from the pump > CPU > GPU > Radiator > pump/reservoir be ok? like... can it handle the gpu AND cpu or should I stick with CPU only or else I have to get a stronger/larger pump n reservoir?

1. yes its a nice kit. however its not very upgradeable.
At most it could probably handle a gpu, adding 2 might be asking for it, without adding more radiators.

The pump it has certainly is not the best pump you can get for our hobby, but it works. I dont know about the reliability on it as the unit is still new, but i do know it will last longer then a thermaltake pump could ever dream of lasting.

And i assume were talking about the Raza 360 so you can mount the rad externally?

Can i also remind you its not hard to piece out a custom.
We have a lot of people here that know what the basic setup should have, and can offer a lot of help in helping u piece out a custom system.

Also u can mount the radiator externally, in the rear using a koolance mount, like this:

Best thing to do is know what your budget is, and what case you have.
Then we can probably help ya out from there.
 
that koolance is NICE! just what I need.

Well... my case is in my sig. I would like the reservoir and pump to be located in my drive bays though. what kind of custom piece can you put together?

i can go from as little as 250 and go as high as 5000 dollars for system close to mine.

If your doing it for performance... looking at your parts... u might get away cheaper though an upgrade to a SB.
Meaning it would probably be more financially better to get a Sandy Bridge system, and not water it, then water your system in sig.

As i said... if your after performance.

I'm going after the fun / cool factor. If I need performance, I'd just upgrade the GPU or get myself a SSD. Getting a SB system is probably going to get me like 5fps extra. I'm not doing extensive CAD or SketchUp work yet, but that's for the future to decide if the next newest thing after SD is required, aka let's see if I'm getting a promotion.

Anyways... I need something upgradeable to SB later... which shouldn't be hard. It has to look good! I could always use a car's heater core ($27 @ my local zone) and use a T-line as a reservoir... but that doesn't look good... unless... you could make it look good... whatcha got?! 🙂
 
i decided im not doing watercooling... im going to oil cool it! i got my fish tank and mineral oil all ready to go. All I need now is acrylic to make a custom hard drive tray and I'm gunna have myself a fishtank computer. lets see how bad this screws up...
